What is Green Glue?
Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound is a viscoelastic damping compound that converts sound energy into a minute amount of heat. Very simply, when used between two layers of drywall, the compound works to isolate the noise traveling from one room to the other.

What Building Materials can I use Green Glue between?
Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound should be used between two rigid layers of building materials and is most often used between drywall, plywood, cement board, mass loaded vinyl, OSB, and MDF. It can be used between other materials such as metal, cinderblock (as one of the layers), and heavy rubber underlayments but these situations are less than ideal.
How will Green Glue improve my noise situation?
Each assembly is different, but in most cases applying Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound properly will greatly improve the STC rating of the structure (STC is Sound Transmission Class).

What thickness of drywall is recommended for use with Green Glue?
As mass plays such an important role in soundproofing, we always recommend using the thickest layer of drywall available, which is typically 5/8”. Keep in mind when adding extra layer(s) of drywall you need to plan on extending electrical outlets/switches along with wall/door trims.
